Hearing Loss
Explanation of Hearing Loss
Causes and Types of Hearing Loss
There are three main types of hearing loss:
Sensorineural Hearing Loss: This type of hearing loss occurs when there is damage or dysfunction in the inner ear (cochlea) or the auditory nerve. It is the most common type of permanent hearing loss and is often associated with aging, noise exposure, or genetic factors.
Conductive Hearing Loss: Conductive hearing loss refers to a condition where sound is unable to travel efficiently through the outer or middle ear. It can be caused by conditions such as ear wax blockage, ear infections, fluid accumulation in the middle ear, or abnormalities in the ear structure.
Mixed Hearing Loss: Mixed hearing loss refers to a combination of sensorineural and conductive hearing loss. There may be a problem with the transmission of sound through the outer or middle ear as well as damage to the inner ear or auditory nerve.
